Good day, I have a small hobby bandsaw with about 500W power and I would like to try cutting thin metal sheets with it. I have chosen a steel saw blade with a length of 1490 mm and parameters 13x0.65 / 4. The last digit, 4, is the tooth pitch. Do I understand correctly that if I want a blade with very fine teeth, I need the smallest pitch number? Thank you for advice or a direct recommendation. Also, I would like to cut thinner pieces of hardwood on the saw. Here I have read your articles and understood that the hook tooth shape is the right one for me. So I chose the thin blade 1490/10x0.65/4 - Hook. Is this okay? Thank you.

Good day, thank you for your inquiry. Length 1490 - do you have a wood or metal bandsaw? According to the band length, it looks like a table saw for wood. If it is a wood bandsaw, unfortunately you cannot cut steel with it, because the band speed would be too high and the teeth on the band would break quickly. For cutting metals, a speed about 10 times lower is needed, i.e. 40-90 meters/minute! (Wood bandsaws have about 900 m/minute). (Note: by reducing the speed with a frequency converter, you would lose the necessary power and the band would stop). On a wood bandsaw, for example, aluminum, plastics, pertinax, etc. could be cut.

When choosing the tooth pitch, the higher the TPI number, the smaller the teeth (smaller pitch). If you had a metal bandsaw, a pitch of 4 TPI (short for teeth per inch) means 4 teeth per inch. The pitch between the teeth is therefore 25.4:4 = 6.35 mm. These are too large teeth, such a pitch (4TPI) is only for solid logs with a diameter of 50 mm. For sheet metal and profiles with a wall thickness up to 2 mm, we recommend fine teeth, e.g. 10/14 TPI.

Regarding the choice of saw blade for hardwood, I approve it with the fact that the blade you have chosen - 4 TPI pitch - is ideal for a cutting depth of 20-80 mm. I recommend trying coarser teeth TPI 3 or finer TPI 6, so you can evaluate it better. You have certainly looked at the article CHOICE OF SAW BLADE TOOTH PITCH FOR WOOD.

Thank you, Regards Pavel Dudr

Hello, yes, you can use a 1140 mm long band saw blade even if the original length is 1141 mm. The tensioning of the band has a range of a few millimeters, so such a difference is not a problem. In addition, band saw blades are produced with a tolerance of approximately 1 tooth pitch, which is completely standard. Good morning, for cutting stainless steel, I recommend the EPIC GP 13x0.65 mm blade, which is universal for both common steel and stainless steel.
Special blades for stainless steel are produced only from 27 mm width (e.g. XP or Siclone). I also recommend initially running in the blade on solid common steel and using cooling or at least lubrication, for example with WD spray oil.

Good day. I am considering buying the Scheppach HBS 261 bandsaw. I assume it is a saw for wood. However, I would also need to equip it with a blade for metal, or specifically for corrugated sheets, or for sheet metal roofing. I would also need a blade for laminate boards and for plastic. Could you please advise me whether it is possible to order these blades from you and what types I will need? Thank you for your answer.

Good day, thank you for your inquiry. The Scheppach HBS 261 bandsaw is a bandsaw primarily designed for wood. Due to the high speed of the saw blade, we do not recommend cutting metal with it. You can read more in the article: CUTTING METAL ON A WOOD BANDSAW? BETTER NOT. WE EXPLAIN WHY. You could cut laminate boards and plastic with classic wood cutting blades. For example, Flexback 1790x10x0.5 tooth pitch 4TPI or 6TPI. If you find that the teeth get dull quickly when cutting, we would recommend bi-metal blades 13 mm wide (it is intended for metal, it has an adapted tooth shape, angle, and smaller pitch specifically for metal).

Good luck, best regards

Epic GP 1640x13x0.65:
for sheet metal 1-2mm, 10/14 and finer,

square tube 2-6mm, with thin walls 2-3mm and cutting 1 piece at a time, the tooth can be 8/12,
when cutting multiple pieces, I recommend the 6/10 tooth, as well as when cutting one piece with wall thickness 3-6mm.

solid material 10-50 mm, 6/10 tooth for smaller diameters, for diameters 40-50mm I would rather recommend a larger tooth, at least a constant 6 TPI, which will be more universal for you.

At least for solid material, I recommend manual cooling, e.g. with oil or an emulsion in a PET bottle.

Good day, I would like to ask about the blade for the Parkside PMB 1100 B2 saw (toy). I have a new one and want to put a quality blade on it right away. I will mainly be cutting square tubes of black steel, but occasionally aluminum and stainless steel as well. I was looking at EPIC GP 1140/13x0.5. In my opinion, 0.5 is more suitable for this saw than 0.65. I'm planning to add cooling/lubrication. Is that meaningful? And I would also like to ask for clarification on the "break-in" procedure for the EPIC GP blade. In your article, you write: pressure 50% and speed 50-80%. I have no idea what these values mean. 50% pressure of what? If the saw just falls by gravity? And the speed? The saw has a speed setting from 1 to 6 with a rotary knob. So, during break-in, should I set it to 4? Thanks for the info.
SIMONDS
Translated by AI

Good day, we apologize for the late reply. We now only sell the 0.65 mm thick blade, which customers have come to prefer. When choosing a blade, I recommend selecting a pitch of 6/10 TPI (teeth per inch) and 8/12 TPI and trying out which one suits you best. Ideally, you should have about 10 teeth in the cut; for profiles, you will have to compromise. If you were constantly cutting solid material with a diameter of 50 mm, I recommend a pitch of 4 TPI. If you were cutting tubes with a wall thickness of 1 mm, I recommend 10/14 TPI. The worst option would be to cut a 50 mm square tube at a 45° angle with a 10/14 TPI pitch, because towards the end you would be cutting a length of 70 mm and would have 33 teeth in the cut! This will cause the teeth to break off. It is better to choose a coarser tooth pitch (lower TPI) than a finer one.
Cooling definitely makes sense; your saw blades will last longer. If you take a PET bottle and make a hole in the cap, you can use it for initial cooling.
Saw blades are run in because the tooth tips are too sharp and need to be slightly dulled, otherwise they break off easily. Something like a sharpened pencil. These specifications are for larger saws where everything can be adjusted. You should simply cut slower and more gently at the beginning. This means holding the saw back a little when it cuts and if you normally cut at speed 6, cut for 15 minutes at speed 4. If you are cutting stainless steel, I recommend running it in on ordinary solid black material.

Good day, thank you for your inquiry. It looks like a wood bandsaw. Check if it is possible to reduce the speed so that the blade runs at only approx. 90 meters per minute. Otherwise, you cannot cut iron, at most soft metals like aluminum. We write more about this in this article: CUTTING METAL ON A WOOD BAND SAW? RATHER NOT. WE EXPLAIN WHY. Note: A frequency converter will not solve this. But if you can reduce the speed, I would recommend the EPIC GP 1575x13x0.65mm 10 TPI metal saw blade (teeth per inch), a constant tooth pitch is better for manual cutting.

Good day, you need the EPIC 13x0.65 band with appropriate teeth. For the pipes, I would get 10/14 or 14 teeth. For the round steel, 8/12 teeth.

Cutting speeds, as far as I know, this saw cannot change.
You should generally cool, but with this saw you will likely destroy it, as it is not structurally intended for it. But if you have, for example, emulsion with water in a jar and occasionally "lick" the band with it, it might help.

Unfortunately, in the thickness of 0.5 there is not as much choice of tooth pitch as in 0.65. Cooling - this saw is not designed for it at all (it is not properly sealed and tends to get "clogged with wet chips"), but I often encounter cooling/lubrication with a brush or some other form of continuous lubrication directly on the band. My layman technical impression is that on a smaller saw with smaller wheels, the thinner blade will better withstand the bending stress... - why can't 0.5 be ordered above 1600 mm? I could buy it in length 1410mm but it is no longer offered for the 1638mm band. Risk of stretching? - my H-BS115 saw has a manufacturer-specified blade length of 1380mm, yet the manufacturer supplies blades of 1640mm length and I often see this size on other saws built on a similar basis. Are the 2mm noticeable in any way or is it a "rounding error"? :) Thank you and I wish you a better 2021

Good day, several factors come into play here: - some saws have guides set for 0.5 (e.g. Makita saws) - yes, the thinner blade reacts better with smaller wheels - it can definitely be ordered, but the online shop has some standard combinations pre-set and recommends based on them. But of course, almost anything can be produced. For a possible order, please contact us by email or phone. - for the BS115 and its "sisters", 1630 or 1640mm are standardly delivered. Good day, thank you for your inquiry. The EPIC and SBX saw bands are made of the same material, the difference is in the tooth geometry. The EPIC saw band is designed for productive cutting of solid materials and common structural profiles. The geometry of the SBX band has a reinforced tooth, which is resistant to vibration, rough handling, jamming of the band in the material, and the like. It finds application especially when cutting problematic shapes, open profiles, bundles of hollow profiles, or HEA, HEB, I, IPE U beams, etc. If you are unsure which band to choose, do not hesitate to call or write to us, we will help you choose the ideal band for you.
